This year I decided on wanting to become a social entrepreneur, and if you want to know what that is you can check out my previous blog here. With that said, I would like to ask you a question: Have you ever felt like there is more to do to make the world a better place?
When you see an issue happening to a community, do you feel frustrated? Or maybe helpless? Are you pessimistic? Do you believe there is no saving the world in the state that it is now? Regardless of how you feel, there is no denying a spark that awakens within us and wants us to make a difference in any way we can.
It is with that spark, we are able to see the countless ways in which we can make the world a better place. We can do something as simple as volunteering our time, and resources to a cause we care about; to developing an organization or business to help solve a need for humanity. Don’t forget that actions don’t need to be so grand, they can be the small everyday choices we make. This is why with each action I take, I want to believe that they add up to making this world better either by the tiny little bits of choices I make such as showing compassion and kindness to grand ones such as trying to build a social enterprise to solve social issues of the 21st century.
That is my goal for this world, to help solve social issues through the businesses I plan on creating because I believe the world needs more people to think outside the box, or at the very least be able to think as close to the edges as possible.
One small step is all it takes, and this step is enough to push any one of us forward to make the change possible in the world. Doing small actions such as volunteering your time is a good small step to take, or your small step might be cleaning up the local park, donating to charity, and the list goes on.
What matters is that your small step will be unique to you and no one else, but all steps lead to the same conclusion: change in the world. Never underestimate the power of a small step, and just take it one day at a time. It all takes time, and an ungodly amount of dedicated energy to see the change happen.
Even if you happen to see that change happen, the potential implications probably won’t be felt till many years later. Think of change like a universe that is constantly expanding, you might not be able to feel it yet but you can visibly see it happening over time in small bits, or if you’re lucky big bits.
As the new year is approaching, I’ve been looking back at the year and thinking about my different phases of growth (albeit slow growth), trying to discover and rediscover things I’ve missed. These are changes I thought about very deeply and want to improve on.
I can be my own worst enemy, I mean who hasn’t been their own worst enemy right? In any case, the change that I want to see is one of self-discipline and consistency. I want to be proud of myself for keeping myself in check when it comes to my health, work, and relationships. I want to show a consistent body of work that not only showcase my growth but also enhance my creativity to the point it can be looked upon for ages.
I want to be the best version of myself that is beneficial to me, but to the people around me as well. I want to earn, and grow my confidence in areas of my life, be more thoughtful, and master my fears. I want to break away from my bad habits and be proud of myself for the standards I set. Change is a long, grueling process that depends on the obstacles we face not only outside of ourselves but also within as well.
